I have always held Calontir in high esteem, so here ia a bit I wrote recounting an actual event from Gulf Wars - I often perform this at events. to honor those most honorable enemies and friends of the Falcon Banner.
The Honor of Calontir By Bryan Adams, Gleann Abhean formerly of Meridies
Hearken kind gentles, ladies and kin, For I’d tell you of something you should know Of battle, of glory and a deed well done And yes, of praise of my foe. This might seem odd I am sure, For how often do we brag of defeat? But this was a thing that I cherish I’ll tell you of those I did meet
Twas on the Gulf Wars field, nigh four years ago As the army mustered to move The Meridian banner went forward that day In our section there with my house I then stood Forward to the wall! Was order of the day And our band advanced when we were hailed But behind I stayed, by armor betrayed As my leggings shed rivets and failed
When I regained my feet and went after my squad They were nowhere in sight to be found Unknown to me they had been sent to the left Reinforcing our flank they were bound Well-a- day, the wall was before me Surely they had gone on ahead I surmised Two rampmen there were awaiting my march So up I went over the rise
But to my dismay I was all alone No black and white banners before me But instead I was faced by nigh on a score Of very surprised Calontiri Of which of us was more dismayed, I can be sure it was I on that day Somehow they didn’t seem to feel threatened at all And so stepped up to enter the fray
Now the plan was to fight, oh, have no doubt It was never my intention to yield But this was in no way a bout I could win And the spearmen had strength of the field So I braced myself, there behind my shield, And spoke as the spearman advanced “Come gentlemen, don’t kill me like a dog One shieldman is all that I ask.”
Now this was a war, where death walks behind Every soldier who steps on the field List rules cannot be assumed to apply It’s every man fights or everyman yields But the spearmen fell back and another came forward A man with a shield and sword steady “At your pleasure milord, “he said and saluted “We can contend whenever you’re ready.”
Of that fight I will say only this It was short, brisk an well fought And when it was all said and done Twas my luck that came to naught But though I lost that battle that day I speak of it time and again Because I know good honor when I see it And I met true chivalry then
So hear these words, hearken close as I say Because I will tell you forthrightly they’re true In Calontir honor resides That compares to only a few I do not love my kingdom the less, far from it, I adore my one true queen And of men that I’ll follow, foremost above all Is the one whom I would call my king
But an enemy who shows honor, is brave and is true Is something that I shall cherish and hold dear Chivalry lives on, and tis purple and gold And it can be found in Calontir

The Honor of Calontir
By Bryan Adams, Gleann Abhean formerly of Meridies
Hearken kind gentles, ladies and kin,
For I’d tell you of something you should know
Of battle, of glory and a deed well done
And yes, of praise of my foe.
This might seem odd I am sure,
For how often do we brag of defeat?
But this was a thing that I cherish
I’ll tell you of those I did meet
Twas on the Gulf Wars field, nigh four years ago
As the army mustered to move
The Meridian banner went forward that day
In our section there with my house I then stood
Forward to the wall! Was order of the day
And our band advanced when we were hailed
But behind I stayed, by armor betrayed
As my leggings shed rivets and failed
When I regained my feet and went after my squad
They were nowhere in sight to be found
Unknown to me they had been sent to the left
Reinforcing our flank they were bound
Well-a- day, the wall was before me
Surely they had gone on ahead I surmised
Two rampmen there were awaiting my march
So up I went over the rise
But to my dismay I was all alone
No black and white banners before me
But instead I was faced by nigh on a score
Of very surprised Calontiri
Of which of us was more dismayed,
I can be sure it was I on that day
Somehow they didn’t seem to feel threatened at all
And so stepped up to enter the fray
Now the plan was to fight, oh, have no doubt
It was never my intention to yield
But this was in no way a bout I could win
And the spearmen had strength of the field
So I braced myself, there behind my shield,
And spoke as the spearman advanced
“Come gentlemen, don’t kill me like a dog
One shieldman is all that I ask.”
Now this was a war, where death walks behind
Every soldier who steps on the field
List rules cannot be assumed to apply
It’s every man fights or everyman yields
But the spearmen fell back and another came forward
A man with a shield and sword steady
“At your pleasure milord, “he said and saluted
“We can contend whenever you’re ready.”
Of that fight I will say only this
It was short, brisk an well fought
And when it was all said and done
Twas my luck that came to naught
But though I lost that battle that day
I speak of it time and again
Because I know good honor when I see it
And I met true chivalry then
So hear these words, hearken close as I say
Because I will tell you forthrightly they’re true
In Calontir honor resides
That compares to only a few
I do not love my kingdom the less, far from it,
I adore my one true queen
And of men that I’ll follow, foremost above all
Is the one whom I would call my king
But an enemy who shows honor, is brave and is true
Is something that I shall cherish and hold dear
Chivalry lives on, and tis purple and gold
And it can be found in Calontir
